Fourth Article: This portrayal of Jesus' body is accurate. He looks to have been pretty gorgeous and manly, but after being stressed out and not eating for days, He is horribly bruised, torn, and exhausted. His nose is badly broken, and his left eye is protruding. The severe bruises on his head are the result of the crown of thorns.
Our Lord's body had already been shredded to bits by the scourging. We can see that He was already in such a vegetative state that an average person would die within minutes. He loves His people so much that He is willing to die for them.
As a Catholic, I shall be eternally grateful to the Salamanca, Spain, staff who spent fifteen years methodically investigating the Shroud of Turin.
P.S. - We Catholics do not venerate such images. WE APPRECIATE THEM.
The Salamanca Diocese presented a 3D image of Christ's body following His passion and death. The Shroud of Turin served as the inspiration for this portrayal.
May this cutting-edge depiction of Christ's body inspire us to think more deeply about the meaning of his passion, death, and resurrection!
