'Massive' Russian missile strikes hammer major cities leaving most of Kyiv without water or power

A series of "massive strikes" were launched by Russia across Ukraine, including on the capital, resulting in power outages and no water, Ukrainian officials say.

Several blasts shook Kyiv this morning, days after Russia blamed Ukraine for a "massive" drone attack on its Black Sea fleet.

At least five explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital between 8am and 8.20am local time.

Regional authorities in northern, eastern and central Ukraine also reported missile strikes.

Smoke could be seen rising above Kyiv after more than 10 explosions and electric power as well as mobile phone networks went down in parts of the city.

Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said the city had been struck by two missiles that targeted "a critical infrastructure facility".

Blasts were also reported in the cities of Zaporizhzhia and Cherkasy.

"Russian losers continue waging war on civilian facilities," Andriy Yermak, President Volodymyr Zelensky's chief of staff, wrote in messaging app Telegram.
