Bob Chiaradio Brings Supportive Materials That Counters The Westerly School Committee Vote Of 7-0 Denouncing Critical Race Theory

Bob Chiaradio recounts the voting history of the Westerly, RI school committee to denounce the teachings of critical race theory in the school system with a unanimous 7-0 vote in June of 2021. Two weeks later, the committee voted 6-0 against a resolution removing CRT from the school curriculum.

Bob Chiaradio brings up several inconsistencies in reports, writings and meetings that diametrically oppose the sentiment of the 7-0 vote with the following examples of support by Westerly School Committee Chair Diane Bowdy and its body.

Westerly Democrat Committee and Officer Diane Bowdy supports Leslie Dunn, who is vying for a seat on the Westerly school committee and is a cofounder of Westerly’s ARC (Anti-racism Coalition) along with April Dinwoodie.

In a 2021 interview, Ms. Dinwoodie admitted to furthering the teachings of critical race theory to our children. To insert herself further in the Westerly system, on 1-25-22, she applied for a seat on the Westerly Multicultural Committee. It should be noted there is no application for this committee but a symbolic move.

Below is a full explanation of her intent.

Provide a brief explanation of you interest in this board:

As a founding member of Westerly Anti-racism Coalition
(ARC), a Black/Bi-racial resident of Westerly, and a Diversity
and Inclusion Professional, I'd like to be a part of advancing
multiculturalism in our town.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ARC had three separate PRIVATE meetings with Westerly’s school committee, town council and the police department.

It is the conclusion of Bob Chiaradio that in spite of a 7-0 vote by the school committee to denounce the teachings of critical race theory, the secret meetings with ARC show intent and leanings but also might violate the Open Meetings Act.
