A seabird belonging to the family Fregatidae, the extraordinary frigatebird (Fregata magnificens) is also known as the man of war.

It is the largest species of frigate bird, measuring 89–114 centimeters (35–45 inches) in length and a wingspan of 2.17–2.44 meters (7.1–8.0 ft) .

Between northern Mexico and Peru on the Pacific coast and between Florida and southern Brazil along the Atlantic coast, it occurs over tropical and subtropical waters off the American coast.

In addition, the population can be found in the Atlantic Cape Verde Islands and the Pacific Galapagos Islands.
