A CONDEMNATION OF SUMMER’S BLUSH

Flower fades as bloom withers upon its now weakened stem.
Fate is sealed as Mother Nature must once again condemn.
Fair of beauty dotting landscape with vivid summer’s blush
Bursts with bright colors yet to fade with dab of frost’s paintbrush.

Season’s cycle is unending, ever bringing the same--
Year after year, Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter wager their claim.
Brilliant summer sun burns a path to light the leaves of Fall.
Left behind is blush on landscape’s cheek as chill comes to call.

Harmony of Autumn prepares earth for cold soon to be,
As hill and vale greet advent of picturesque imagery.
Such regal beauty to behold trumps warmth of summer sun.
Soon forgotten is season’s work as harvest bounty’s won!

Sheila Bowyer Kline
"It is the glistening autumnal side of summer. I feel a cool vein in the breeze, which braces my thought, and I pass with pleasure over sheltered and sunny portions of the sand where the summer's heat is undiminished, and I realize what a friend I am losing." – Henry David Thoreau
