God did something about Sin that neither you nor I nor anyone could do: He sent His Son to condemn Sin and take it away on the cross. What, then, must we say about those who resurrect Sin, determined to fight it on their own (thanks anyway, Jesus) so as to avoid a horrific (fictional) penalty (eternal torment) for NOT fighting it? Hm. Are the words "stupid" and "self-righteous" too strong here?
