Topic: Prejudice, Stereotypes and Discrimination - Social Psychology.

In this lecture we will review Prejudice, Stereotypes and Discrimination.

Stereotype a set of characteristics that people believe is shared by all members of a particular group. Prejudice negative attitude held by a person or group about the members of a social group- race sex. Discrimination is treating people differently because of prejudice toward the social group to which they belong.

In-groups social groups with whom a person identifies with. Out-groups social groups with whom a person does not identify with-them- democrats, republicans, atheists, religious fanatics, haters, materialists, savers of the environment.

Social identity is the part of the self-concept including one’s view of self as a member of a particular social category.
