Topic: Perceiving Our Social Worlds - Social Psychology

In this lecture we will review how we Perceive in Our Social Worlds.

Schemas (a mental structure containing knowledge about a category) are the cognitive building blocks of knowledge. Schemas allow people to make inferences, judgments, and decisions about a given stimulus.

Schemas can be very helpful, but can produce false beliefs and limit a person’s interpretation of reality. Building Blocks include: Sources; Accessibility and Priming; Confirmation Bias; and Metaphor.

Perceiving and Interpreting Events - We view our social worlds through the spectacles of our beliefs, attitudes, and values. That is one reason our beliefs are so important, they shape our interpretation of everything else.

I am open to additional lecture title suggestions… so if you have a topic in mind, send me your request.
