Hello everyone,

In this video I would like to bring you along with me to the St. Mina Monastery.

It is located on the banks of the Vladaiska River, 7-8 km Northeast from Sofia, in the former village of Obradovtsi - currently a district of Sofia (the district is called Benkovski).

The appearance of the monastery is nothing spectacular, but it exhibits an icon of St. Mina, which is known for its miracles of healing and family blessings.

St. Mina constantly attracts people from all over the country and there are a lot of miracles associated with this monastery and the icon.

According to a legend the monastery was established in the 11th century. The complex represented 40 chapels, some were dedicated to St. Apostles Peter and Paul, St. Nicholas, St. Kozma and Damyan, and others. The property was destroyed by the crusades and the Ottoman conquests.

The Great Martyr St. Mina was originally from Egypt and served in the Roman army under emperors Diocletian and Maximilian (284-305). They were fierce persecutors of the Christians and tortured and killed all Christians who failed to honour idols. St. Mina was beheaded and died in the name of God because he refused to worship idols.
