Chongqing- Alex In The City "Halloween In China "Episode 24 In this episode, I share my experience of Halloween in Chongqing, China. Cultures from Europe to China have traditional days of the dead or ghost days that are thousands of years old that were part of the tribal folk religions before the advent of Christianity in Europe and Buddhism in Asia. The Chinese have traditional days of the dead that are much more popular such as the Hungry Ghost Festival, the Qing Ming Festival, the Double 9th Festival, and the Spring Festival. China doesn't tend to celebrate Halloween as we do; however, on the 14th night of the 7th Lunar month in the rotating Chinese calendar, the Hungry Ghost Festival (or Yulan Festival or Teng Chieh as it's traditionally called) takes place.
The Hungry Ghost festival signifies the opening of the gates of the spirit realm, permitting restless spirits to walk the earth and has been celebrated for over 100 years. Many Chinese people believe that the spirits need to be appeased for them to pass by them in peace, so offerings such as food and drink is left out for the ghosts.

Chongqing-A new series of vlogging is coming to Chongqing. Let me introduce myself. My name is Alex, and I have recently moved to Chongqing, China. I was born in Canada but have always been interested in China. The population of Chongqing is similar to that of my country. Some people might think that a vlogger it's just a person talking about him or herself, and maybe that's how it was many years ago. Some vloggers create educational content, and others talk about their political views or experiences. I try to inspire and motivate people to change their perceptions of China. So why do I do this? With technology no longer an obstacle, I can get my message out to the world. People want an inside, non-biased look at real life in this competitive media landscape, and my vlogs deliver you that and more. I will show you China, but I will show you my accomplishments and my struggles.
