Historic Comeback: Lula Wins Brazilian Elections

It's one of the most astonishing political comebacks in Brazilian history: Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has won Brazil's presidential election.

The leader of the left-wing Workers' Party and Brazil's former president has beaten the incumbent far-right Jair Bolsonaro, who came to power in January 2019 on a platform of racism, misogyny, and homophobia.

Bolsonaro's supporters had been confident of victory, but Lula's backers breathed a sigh of relief when news came that the 77-year-old had snatched victory by less than one percent.
