South Africa - Cape Town - 31 October 2022 - One person died and 430 people are left without homes following a blaze that ripped through hundreds of informal homes in Masiphumelele. While the details of the incident remain unclear, firefighters were dispatched after the City’s Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the incident at about 02.45am. The fire was brought under control just before 5am.
Kommetjie Road fire station’s crew was first on scene and confirmed numerous informal structures burning, fanned by a strong South-Easterly wind, and called on more resources to help bring the blaze under control. video : Phando Jikelo/African News Agency (ANA)
