Chabimura is a rare combination of history, nature and adventure. Located in the Devtamura Hills, this heritage destination in Tripura is mysterious and enigmatic.

How to reach Chabimura?
Chabimura is located in Amarpur subdivision, about 36 km from Udaipur town. The approach to Chabimura is through a village road through Deb Bari. We took a car from Udaipur and travelled through the rough village roads and finally reached Chabimura.
The place from where you can get the boat ride is known as Rangamati.

Chabimura is known for rock carvings on vertical mountain faces.
Chabimura has no specific history, not even any legends and myths. Located deep in the forest, there are a few rock-cut panels of Hindu pantheons. These are carved out at the steep rocky face of the cliff that descends directly in the river bed some 150 feet below. This place seems to be just in middle of nowhere.
There are a total of 4 panels of rock-cut sculptures on the mountain walls. We had to take a boat ride to see these rock panels on the mountain faces. The first panel that we noticed on start of our journey is the panel consisting of the images of Panchadevata.
There is another smaller panel showing a procession of a queen in palanquin followed by several persons. This group consists of 37 male and female figures along with their leader. The group seems to be engaged in music and dance and holding various musical instruments.
After a weird bend in the river course, there is a cave on the left side. Jamatia legend has it that King Chichingfa had stashed all his treasures in large wooden chests inside the cave. The treasure is guarded by a gigantic python. There is a waterfall inside the cave and tourists can visit only up to that point. We could not go all the way as it started raining! Our bad luck!
Finally after some time we came across the main attraction – the colossal 13-m high image of Goddess Durga, locally known as Devi Chakrama. She has ten hands. Her right leg is firmly placed of the buffalo demon Mahisasur, while the left leg rests on the back of the lion. The hair of the Goddess is replaced by a number of snakes erecting from her head. We were simply awestruck seeing the huge image of the Devi.

The boat ride through the Gomti River itself is quite thrilling. It feels as if you are cruising through dense rainforest. There is an eerie feeling and since it was almost dusk by the time we returned, the strange feeling was all the more.

Chabimura is being developed as an ecotourism destination. There are a few cottages run by a self help group, but you cannot stay there for night. So basically you cannot stay at Chabimura. The nearest place to stay is Amarpur where there are a couple of hotels. Or else, you can stay at Udaipur.
