Living life unconsciously means just following impulses. Truly a pain. Ascend it, or suffering will be your only guide. It's purpose? Guide you out of the pain of ignorance (or unconscious living, same thing). Suffering will guide you to the truth and only that. How do you know you reached the truth? You are no longer unconscious and there is only true joy, not invented one. There is no other way to life.
