This local high school had a Progress Pride flag hanging up in the classroom. it was the classroom where the gay-straight Alliance Club met. and basically what ended up going on was that they labeled the flag as political. claiming one student was uncomfortable because he didn't want to pledge to it. but it wasn't even open when the pledging was going on. regardless this whole thing transpired and turned into like you know I'm sorry I'm a little nervous first-time caller. Everybody is doing a great job. doing all this stuff so I'm actually not involved in activism that much but this took place at the middle school where I graduated from. I live very close to it so I attended this rally in support of keeping the progress pride flag up. I just wanted to outline the parts of the story that aren't well being touched upon. the counter-protesters that showed up. they were small in numbers but their sentiment wasn't exactly anti-LGBT. but it was mostly anti you know black and white exclusionary thought which was very interesting to see. How did that manifest itself? so funnily like I noticed that some of the kind of protesters were approaching like younger students and younger people and just starting to say things that I've heard mirror on like Fox News and whatnot about you know how political BLM is and the media separation and whatnot. which was really confusing because it wasn't about the media at all. and they kind of just like roped into that and I constantly had to like to anchor them back to the conversation. but when they are all okay I should have prefaced this I'm sorry. but the Regular LGBT flag they were okay. but the progress pride in the fact they were not okay with it. because of the black and brown stripe inclusion. and when I pointed it out to them they would just jump and pile on top and say no this is not what we're thinking. like we don't have a problem with that we just have a problem with BLM and it's overtly political. and when I got there I should also mention that the whole Prospect of the flag being political is nonsense. but they also had blue lives matter Flags confirmed in the school. and they also had a neo-confederate flag painted on one of the student's parking spaces. so it was interesting to see these counter-protesters like show up and not talk about the issue that they were showing up for.
