Ukrainian troops have an advantage over the Russian army during the winter. Former general of the US Armed Forces David Petraeus believes it will be much more difficult for Russia to wage war in winter than for Ukraine, so the return of temporarily occupied territories to Ukrainian control is a quite realistic scenario. “I think Ukraine’s offensive will be successful. I do not think that Ukrainian troops will slow down their operational offensive with the arrival of winter. The logistics of the Russians are very weak, the bridges are destroyed, and the railway tracks, as on the Crimean bridge,” Petraeus said. He noted that the Russians currently have a lot of problems: the morale of the Russian army is very low, they do not understand what they are fighting for, and the people in the occupied territories resist them despite their barbaric filtering procedures. “Winter is coming. They don’t even have enough warm clothes, not to mention weapons,” the general stressed.

The costs of rebuilding Ukraine are going to be significant and will require government and private funding of massive reconstruction projects.
