Gangs and AIDS in the Black Community (1997)

Originally produced October 24, 1997: The Jesse Peterson Show, with guest Mondel Pettaway, a former gang member and program coordinator for Minority AIDS Project in Los Angeles, aimed at helping people affected by and at-risk for the HIV virus, particularly “African American” and “Latino” communities. Jesse and Mondel discuss homosexuality, drug use, family, why kids get into gangs, black-on-black violence, crime, fathers, mothers, and men and women’s relationships. Some live callers offer questions and comments, as well as audience members. They disagree on whether men should lead over women — Mondel thinks they should be “equal.”
