"Danger Close" is a phrased spoken by used by an artillery observer to inform the artillery Fire Direction Center (FDC) that the rounds will explode within 600 meters for mortars and artillery and 750 meters for naval gunnery.

This could effect the choice in artillery gun ammunition that the FDC instructs the guns to use. It may also require that the FDC get permission from a senior leader before letting the fire mission go through.
