One of the British Isles, the Isle of Man, also known as Man, Mann, Manx-Gaelic Ellan Vannin or Mannin, or Latin Mona or Monapia, is situated in the Irish Sea off the northwest coast of England.

The island is nearly halfway between England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. The Isle of Man, a crown possession since 1828 that has self-government in its internal affairs under the control of the British Home Office, is not a part of the United Kingdom.

The primary axis of the Isle of Man runs from southwest to northeast, and it measures roughly 30 miles (48 km) long by 10 miles (16 km) wide.
