The National Aeronautics and Space Administration has been revolutionizing the field of space science for over a century now. This independent agency of the US federal government is responsible for the civilian space program, aeronautical research and space exploration that has completely changed our perception of the strange but wonderful world around us. Their missions have helped us better understand the universe and the phenomena taking place in its farthest reaches. And last year, NASA scientists announced that they had discovered something incredibly massive between Earth and Venus. Join us as we learn more about the great discovery and what it means for humanity.
In January 2021, Gregory Leonard, a senior research fellow at the University of Arizona
The Lunar and Planetary Laboratory has identified the brightest and most anticipated comet of the year. It was a rather accidental discovery. The comet was observed using Catalina Sky
The survey's 1.5-meter telescope at Mount Lemmon
Infrared Observatory, located in Santa Claus
Arizona's Catalina Mountains. The comet was previously known as C/2021 A1. When it was discovered, the comet was about seven hundred and fifty million kilometers from the Sun. The comet is moving towards the inner solar system.
It passed by Earth on December 12, 2021 and by Venus on December 17, 2021. It had a retrograde orbit and its nucleus was nearly a kilometer across. It actually came within four million kilometers of what is believed to be the closest cometary approach to Venus.
Venus. At the time of its discovery, photographs taken as part of the Mount Lemon survey showed a ten-inch coma and a five-inch-wide tail. Its size is estimated. Thank you for watching the video. Have a nice day.
