Climate Policy: reflections on the place and role of science in society
Science is an invaluable tool, and essential for understanding the causes and nature of climate change. But to what extent can or should science guide us in understanding climate change’s societal impact?
In this talk, Dr Calum TM Nicholson, Visiting fellow at Danube Institute explores the limits of science, and the dangers of ‘Scientism’ - the assumption that science isn’t simply a tool in service of our values and culture, but a guide to what our values and culture should be. If we are to formulate rigorous and judicious climate policy, we must understand not just the science of climate change, but the place and role of that science in society.
