Famous shooter Quirt Evans is injured and on the run. He shows up at a Quaker ranch claimed by Thomas Worth and his family where he falls from fatigue. Evans asks Thomas and his girl Penelope to drive him into town in their cart to send a critical message. The wire contains a land guarantee and is shipped off the land recorder's office. The Quaker family is disregarding the town specialist's recommendation to free themselves of the gun slinger and they mercifully watch out for the woozy Evans. Penny Worth becomes fascinated by his ravings of past loves.When Evans recovers cognizance, Penny clarifies for him about the Quaker philosophy of peacefulness and lifestyle. After three weeks, two desperadoes, Laredo Stevens and Hondo Jeffries, ride into town searching for Evans.Penny's more youthful sibling, Johnny, surges home to educate Evans regarding his guests and Evans gets ready to escape. Penny, presently stricken with Evans, offers to escape with him. After hearing the sound of moving toward ponies, Evans gets his pistol and, regrettably, finds that it has been purged.
