Ukrainian demining team scans liberated Kharkiv region for mines

Demining experts scanned on Tuesday (October 25) for unexploded ordnance and land mines in deoccupied Kharkiv region.

Around three to five kilometres (1.86 - 3.1 miles) of terrirtory are covered by daily demining patrols, according to demining squad expert Maksym Tomko.

Electrician Anatolii Borysenko followed in the footsteps of the demining squad to inspect the damaged electrical lines. Borysenko said that they wait for the demining experts complete their work before being allowed to repair electrical lines.

“Almost half the line is damaged. We passed 15 sections, and there are 15 ruptures,” Borysenko told Reuters.

Demining experts also inspected the farming enterprise in Kozacha Lopan, which was used as a military base by Russian military, according to Tomko.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources estimates it will take at least a decade to clear all the mines and explosives from the country.
