Custom Casting using Delft clay

This custom (Wild Boar Hat Pin) was created using the client's boar figurine as the mold. The boar was a hollow cast form in really bad shape missing a leg and ear and made of a light weight pot metal. I used a hand saw to cut the piece to make the perfect size for a hat pin. The head was then put in a molding sand called (Delft Clay) to crate the mold impression. Watch to see the steps it took to achieve a very happy result!

When casting using this process it is hard to get a perfectly detailed casting as the piece needs to be removed carefully and hopefully without moving much sand in the process. A cornstarch powder was used in-between each section of the mold to be able to open it to remove the head leaving it's impression to mold a new one.
