The difference between a SEAL and a Marine is sort of the difference between a knife and an ax.

SEALs are sailors who are double volunteers. After a roughly year-long training program, these sailors are uses for very special, surgical missions.

Marines are America's expeditionary force. They often operate in Marine Expeditionary Units or MEUs. These MEUs carry roughly 2,200 Marines along with integrated air support and naval gunnery. There are almost as many Marines in one MEU as there are active duty SEALs. These expeditionary units are very flexible formations which can do everything from evacuate embassies to provide humanitarian relief.
