Elizabeth Petri Basim: As most of you know, my beautiful mom Debbie Grubb Petri has been diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer called Glioblastoma a.k.a GBM. She is currently undergoing chemo and radiation and has to travel to the Henry Ford Cancer Center in Detroit 5 days per week for her treatments. Unfortunately, Co-pays and travel will be adding up very quickly. To help raise awareness of GBM and to help raise money to pay for her medical expenses, we are selling shirts and sweatshirts. Today we celebrated our journey with Al’s wife. Al owns a bike shop in town and we cyclists gathered together to fundraise during Debbie’s tough road. With our love and support, we pray that she will beat it!

I had several people ask me yesterday where they could get a T-shirt or hoodie like Debbie and I had on yesterday because, hey they look cool, and they will help with medical expenses going forward.

Today we celebrated our journey with Al’s wife. Al owns a bike shop in town and we cyclists gathered together to fundraise during Debbie’s tough road. With our love and support, we pray that she will beat it!

Today was my first day of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. I mentioned about a week and half ago that I had my radiation mask made. The mask is a hard plastic that was heated up in an oven and conformed to my face and head it has mesh-like holes that clamps to a table so that I cannot move my head at all during the radiation treatment as we don’t want radiation being directed to the wrong area of my brain. It fits very tight! After the treatment I had little raised bumps all over my face from the “mesh” holes in the mask. Here are a few pictures of me with it on today. They had to do a mini CAT Scan before they started my radiation treatment to get the measurements set for the treatment.
Al and I are so blessed to have you all supporting us through prayers, positive vibes, good thoughts, the Downriver Cycling Club putting on a ride to help with expenses, just everything! We can’t thank you all enough. Love you all so much and I will keep you updated!

Today starts the second phase of Debbie’s treatment. Phase 1 was surgery to remove the glioblastoma. Today we begin a 6 week round of chemo and radiation. She is nervous. So am I. But we have all of you standing behind us for support! Here we go!
