Los Angeles, California — On October 18, 2022, around 11:20 p.m., Wilshire Patrol officers responded to the 1200 block of Victoria Ave for a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon in progress, the suspect is armed with a sword at the location. Upon officer’s arrival they observed 23-year-old Eric Herrera walking in the middle of the street holding a sword. Officers attempted to de-escalate the situation and gave Herrera verbal commands to put the weapon down. Herrera refused to cooperate with the officer’s commands as he approached officers with sword in hand.

The officers utilized less lethal force and a taser was deployed. Herrera was taken into custody without further incident. During the incident, officers made contact with the victim (Herrera's Mom) who was suffering from numerous lacerations to her arm from the Herrera’s sword. The officers quickly rendered aid and applied a tourniquet to the victim’s arm. The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the victim to a local hospital. She is listed in stable condition. Officers arrested Herrera for 664/187PC- Attempt Murder, with a bail of $100,000.

A woman who was stabbed with a sword in the Mid-Wilshire neighborhood of Los Angeles Tuesday night was attacked by her own son, a family member told KTLA Wednesday.

The incident was reported just before midnight in the 1200 block of South Victoria Avenue.

Officers arrived to find a 23-year-old man with a weapon that appeared to be a sword or a machete, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lomeli said.

Body camera footage released late Wednesday by the LAPD showed that the man was armed with a pair of swords before officers used stun guns to incapacitate him and take him into custody.

A 43-year-old woman with stab wounds and was transported to a local hospital, Lomeli said.

The body camera footage shows that she suffered multiple wounds, including lacerations to her arm and torso.

There was no immediate word on the condition of the victim, but a family member later told KTLA that she was in stable condition.

The unidentified family member also said the incident was all part of a family dispute in which the woman’s son attacked his mother.

The young man had been troubled for quite some time before this incident occurred, the family member said.

The suspect was taken into custody and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, Lomeli said.

Witness accounts that a dog was killed in the incident were not true, according to the family member.

Though the body camera footage showed a dog near the man as he was hit by a stun gun, the dog appears to run off.
