This is a complete 4K/60ᶠᵖˢ video strategy guide of Part 1 - The Wine Cellar for Vagrant Story released on the Sony Playstation 1. I played it on the Duckstation emulator. 🎮

🔹🔷 ABOUT 🔷🔹
Vagrant Story is easily one of the best games the Sony PlayStation has to offer. In fact, many people, including myself, place it in their top 10 games of all time. Vagrant Story came at the end of the PlayStation's life cycle and during a time when developers were experimenting with different mechanics, systems of gameplay, and story. The fifth console generation is one of the most innovative times in video game history.

It brought the medium into the 3d realm while implementing groundbreaking controls to complement the expansive immersive environments. While the mid to late nineties saw boon of technical innovations it's also viewed as the golden age of RPGs, by many hardcore gamers. The introduction of CD formats allowed developers to make more elaborate role playing games than ever before, taking the genre to phenomenal new heights.

Games like Final Fantasy 7, Chrono Chross, Suikoden 2, and Xenogears became icons of their time. RPGs went from a niche video game genre to one of the most popular in the industry in just a few short years. Vagrant Story takes the ideas of previous games in the genre, adds some of its own ideas and presents them to its audience.

It has the storytelling of Xenogears requiring the players to put in work to understand the story. It has a version of Parasite Eve's battle system utilizing a targeting sphere. It has the lore and dialogue first seen in Final Fancy Tactics and even some things from Xanadu Next, particularly the camera perspective and box puzzles.

Even if you don't agree with those comparisons, there's one thing that we can all agree on! To beginners, Vagrant Story is hard. The games director, Yasumi Matsuno even described it as a game geared towards hardcore gamers. Many charged into Vagrant Story, not knowing that they would soon smash themselves upon an impassible wall, which would leave them hating the game.

If you were one of those who did take the time to figure out this game's many interconnected systems, you would come to love Vagrant Story. For those that for whatever reason, didn't have the pleasure of completing this masterpiece, or maybe are new to the game and would like some help along the way.
