In 2019, Dave Chappelle released a brand-new comedy special on Netflix, and the viewing audience became extremely divided. The segment was about the LGBTQ community. The joke was seen as homophobic and even incendiary. Even though the jokes, and the special, received incredible reviews from fans and critics alike, some people on the internet were offended, and demanded that Netflix terminate their partnership with the comedian.
In 2020, the same thing happened again when Dave Chappelle made a joke about trans people.
Calls to boycott, calls to take the special off the platform and calls to Netflix to end their partnership.
But what exactly about these jokes was it that pissed people off so much?
