Oregon Residents, Vote No on Ballot Measure 114

Ballot Measure 114 is a poorly conceived anti-gun scheme designed to deprive Oregonians of their 2nd amendment rights. It's impact will be especially felt by those who do not have the money, time and resources to exercise their 2A right. I see this as a way to deny minorities and those without the means the right to legally purchase a firearm. This is outrageous and unacceptable!

The goal of the measure is establishment and requirement of a special state approved "Firearms ID" permit to purchase a firearm. The new program would require specific training (that doesn't exist) and CBC check regardless currently held certifications and licenses such as Oregon's Concealed Handgun License. So if your a hunter, plinker, self-defense advocate, or practical shooting sport participant, you will now be required to get a special permit, to buy a firearm. Your previous training and certifications are irrelevant.

The specific pedagogy for the training is not defined in any detail. Somehow the state will do this... later? Under this new licensing scheme the state will have 10 days to "approve" your right to buy a firearm after you complete a test that doesn't yet exist.

The state can charge you up to $65 every 5 years to "allow you" to buy a firearm. You'll have to complete "State approved" training that includes live fire with a firearm, but you can't complete that if you don't own a gun. A perfect Catch-22!

Apparently these progressives were unaware there is a federal requirement for background check when you buy a firearm every time you buy one.

This new law bans purchase of any magazine holding more than 10 rounds. And ensures you can only use standard capacity magazines except in "state approved" places. Using standard capacity mags, in shooting pits, on federal lands or any "unapproved ranges" will be a crime.

Simply put this is a terrible law... it will hurt minority communities or economically disadvantaged people the most. Effectively this will make their 2nd amendment right to self defense a "state approved" right or force people to purchase a gun for self defense illegally.
