•It is a warning to Egypt
•Egypt boasted of greatness but was defeated by
Assyria
•Assyria was defeated by Babylon
•Babylon is now the current threa t
•The 6 th and 7 th oracles are lamentations over the
fall of Pharaoh
•This message was given on 3 March 585 BCE
•This message assured Egypt and the Jewish
exiles in Egypt that she would fall
•The lament generally follows the judgement
