Recollections of Ajahn Chah I Ajahn Pasanno I 2/3
Ajahn Chah (Subbhado), also known as Luang Por Chah and Phra Bodhiñāṇathera lived from 1918 to 1992 in Ubon, the East of Thailand. He ordinated at age 13 under Ajahn Lang. To support his family he left the monastery again, but returned 8 years later to ordain again. He decided to become a wandering monk and during this time he met the renowned forest monk Ajahn Mun. Soon he would practice as an ascetic forest monk. In 1954 he established the monastery Wat Nong Pah Pong and in 1975 Wat Pah Nanachat in close proximity with a focus on teaching international students. The Ajahn Chah lineage has grown to a network of hundreds of monasteries around the world and has coined a significant amount of known Theravada monks and lay practicioners. To name a few: Ajahn Brahm, Ajahn Sumedho, Ajahn Amaro, Ajahn Jayasaro, Jack Kornfield, Sharon Salzberg, Joseph Goldstein.
