Investigating the Government’s Use of the Emergencies Act to Stop Protests with Andrew Lawton

Was the government justified in invoking the Emergencies Act to deal with the Freedom Convoy earlier this year?

This is precisely what the Public Order Emergency Commission hearings, which began on Oct. 13th, are investigating.

Over 6 weeks, the commission is expected to hear from witnesses such as Tamara Lich (Freedom Convoy organizer), Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, federal cabinet ministers, police, Ottawa city counsellors, Ottawa residents and more.

The inquiry is being made available to the public online. Unlike a court case, the commission will not make any findings of legal or criminal liability. It will, however, make future recommendations based on these hearings.
