Chris Weitzel is suing the Sterling officer who hogtied him after responding to a report of possible domestic violence on Oct. 9, 2020.

The Sterling Police Department knocked on Weitzel's door after a neighbor reported hearing "loud voices." His wife answered, then Weitzel came to the door. Officers asked him to come outside, but he stayed standing in the doorway.

In a matter of 10 seconds, Sterling Officer Paul McDaniel took him to the ground.

The officers in the video keep Weitzel hogtied on his stomach for a total of 16 minutes both on the ground and in the back of a squad car. That is something the Department of Justice warned not to do in a bulletin from 1995.

Weitzel wasn't charged with any crime for domestic violence - the reason police were called out in the first place. He was charged with obstructing a peace officer, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, but all of those charges were later dropped by prosecutors.
