Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a news conference in Surrey, B.C., as his government’s nationwide freeze on the sale, purchase and transfer of handguns comes into effect. The freeze was first announced in May 2022 alongside Bill C-21, which contains further gun control measures and which continues to be debated in Parliament. The prime minister also faces questions about alleged political interference in the RCMP's investigation into the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting, following the Mass Casualty Commission's recent release of an audio recording of a key RCMP meeting.
