Double Dragon No-Death Playthrough (Game Boy Player Capture)

This is a capture of me playing through Double Dragon for the Game Boy. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my GameCube using my Game Boy Player with progressive scan mode enabled (you'll need the GameCube's component cables to do this and your model of GameCube must support component out as well).

Double Dragon was one of the earliest NES games that I can remember owning, but I didn't really know much about the Game Boy versions growing up (except for Double Dragon 3, which I purchased around 1992 or so). When I was in high school, a friend of mine gave me his copy of Double Dragon for the Game Boy after he learned that I like the series. I later replaced it with a complete copy, but that's basically how I became familiar with the Game Boy version.

Double Dragon for the Game Boy is loosely based on the NES version. The music and level designs come straight from the NES port, but there are some noticeable differences, such as altered stages and the missing heart system.

Overall, this version is nowhere near as good as the NES version, but it's decent for a portable game. However, there are a few frustrating things holding this game back such as the jump kick, which is way too floaty and doesn't even knock down Chin or Abobo. Also, the final section of Mission 3 is ridiculous because you have to fight Abobo as the floor disappears. Oh, and you don't get to fight Jimmy Lee at the end even though this is only a single-player game. The two-player mode is simply the tournament fighting mode from the NES version, minus the character selection, so there's no option for co-op gameplay.

I managed to play through this without dying, but I think that ultimately comes down to how lucky you do against Abobo at the end of Mission 3. Everything else is fairly easy.

Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the GameCube's component cables at a native 60 frames per second. I'm using an original model Game Boy Advance as a controller by way of the Game Boy Advance/GameCube Link Cable.
