In the 1970s the last thing Canada was none for was its wine. Then in 1974, Donald Ziraldo and his business partner Karl Kaiser opened Canada’s first premiere winery in the scenic Niagara Peninsula, Canada – Inniskillin.

Then in 1989, Donald put Canada wine on the map by winning the coveted Grand prix d'honneur at Vinexpo, France in 1989 for the Inniskillin Vidal icewine. Ziraldo has been credited for being the man to create putting Canadian wine on the international map. For his contribution Donald was made a member of the Order of Canada.
