149. Raymond Strom - Community Can Save Us

52

Ray's political involvement began at an early age, when in the late 1950s he was a youth member of the Social Credit Party, begun by William Aberhart, continued by Ernest Manning and then Harry Strom, Ray's uncle. It was during this time that much of his conservative values were formed largely within family but also the larger community. This has shaped his views right up to the present, with memberships in the conservative movement (UCP) parties right up to the present.

Ray currently owns and operates a geological laboratory based in Calgary, but serves clients worldwide.

One interesting sidetone is that his innovative technical skills have led him to travel to interesting places, not the least of which are Jordan and Israel. Verifying obscure passages of the Bible, sometimes thought to be myths, has deepened his and other's faith. Expeditions to Grand Canyon and other sites in the U.S. Southwest have verified formerly questioned statements.

Ray has been an active part of the home education movement in Alberta and Canada. Active engagement with government in those early years of home education in the 1980s led to leadership in that movement, constant interaction with government, and now continues with his board position on the Home School Legal Defence Association Canada.

Ray's motto: "Follow your God-given passions and hang on for the ride of your life."

Raymond Strom was born in Southern Alberta, and grew up in the community of Burdett. This was and is a community of leadership and entrepreneurial spirit. Example, first pivot sprinkler in Canada. Ray was raised in a faith family in which at an early age, he personalized that faith that continues to this day.

Ray also grew up in a family steeped in political involvement. It is this compulsion to serve and contribute meaningfully to community and society that motivates and is Ray’s desire to run for the position of Vice-President – Policy and Governance.

Covid times has pressed our resources, both personal and collective, to the limits, and much of this has been brought on by straying from foundational principles. It should be noted that our UCP documents clearly lay out these basic principles and policies. We have diverged from those foundational values, and it is time to return to them.
Further, it is time to lay aside differences that threaten to separate our members, and unite as we move forward into what could possibly be our finest hour as a province. Our expertise, recognized on a global scale, and personally experienced by Ray as he worked in Africa, is well recognized, and follows the “Alberta Advantage”.

It is time to return to Faith, Family and Country, and out of that, see the prosperity of our province revived, as we move within those foundational principles.

Please vote for Raymond Strom – VP – Policy and Governance.
