‘Concerning’: Americans’ trust in the media at near record lows

Sophie Elsworth says Americans’ trust in the media being near record lows is a “real concern”.

According to a Gallup poll, 34 per cent of Americans say they have a “great deal” or “fair amount” of trust, just 14 per cent of Republicans express trust in the media, and young people are less likely to trust it.
“Sometimes I read news articles in Australia and overseas, and I am baffled because they almost seem to be an opinion article when they’re meant to be a straight news story,” Ms Elsworth told Paul Murray.
“A lot of this stems back from how journalists are taught their trade … they almost become activist journalists who want to push their causes.”
