Making a hoofknife from a ball bearing race by Kirk Adkins MS CJF

After shoeing for decades with the traditional hoof knives I was fortunate enough to meet Tom Hall who made farrier tools. In particular were his hammers and knives. I believe he was in part responsible for the explosion of custom hammers and knives available today. His designs were ergonomically superior and when he passed away I was forced to learn to make my own knives. He designed for me a double edge knife for the therapeutic work I did at UC Davis VMTH. I make the same pattern slightly different still today.
This video is an overview of the way I make my single edge knife and is something different to watch. This is the first time I have used a ball bearing race for the blade so I am looking forward to see how it performs.
