In this episode, we welcome Sarah Verardo to the show. She is one of the founders of Save Our Allies (SOA) and the CEO of The Independence Fund. Sarah was part of the team, which included Tim Kennedy, Chad Robichaux, and Nick Palmisciano, that coordinated the rescue of over 12,000 Americans and American allies in just over a week during the fall of Afghanistan in August of 2021. In this interview, we discuss how she has been able to be resilient in the face of her husband’s own catastrophic war injuries suffered in Afghanistan, what she was doing when she got the news that Afghanistan was falling, how she immediately became involved with evacuating Americans and American allies, what it was like coordinating stateside when the rest of her team was in the Middle East, how she was able to vet the refugees, where most of the refugees ended up, how everything in her background set her up for that moment, what she thinks about the Americans that have mentally moved on from the fall of Afghanistan, how they were able to pivot to helping in Ukraine, and much more.
