“The fact today is that if you’re dying of COVID, I can almost guarantee you didn’t get vaccinated,” Becerra said. “If you’re hospitalized and in severe condition because of COVID, I could bet and win that bet nine out of 10 times that you did not get vaccinated.”

He said anybody who is able to get the vaccine should get it. If someone who is fully vaccinated and boosted tested positive for COVID-19, Becerra said the likelihood is that the person will survive and the symptoms will be very mild.
Becerra said he hopes that parents and family members look at the hundreds of millions of people in the United States who have gotten vaccinated and have proven that COVID-19 vaccines are safe. He said that Health and Human Services will do everything it can to make sure people feel confident about vaccines and know that when a vaccine is offered to a child, it will be safe and effective. Becerra said he hopes that parents look at data and facts for vaccines.

“Good for you that you care about your family, good for you that you want to know the facts, good for you that you have to do everything you can to shield your family from anything that will harm it.”

He said the mask is still very important because COVID-19 continues to exist. Masks have been proven once again to be effective, they are not the only way, but they are effective, Becerra said. He said if people want to take care of themselves and take care of the people they love, especially children who can’t get vaccinated, then masks are important.

If someone is in a place where COVID-19 is spreading, then they should wear a mask for their own safety and health, he said. People should also wear a mask for children who can’t get vaccinated or for grandparents who are getting old and have a medical condition, Becerra said.

“Let’s think about ourselves and we love,” Becerra said. “Let’s be responsible for each other.”
