Via studying Anti-Serum Therapy, Pirquet suggested that the mechanism of “serum exanthema”, occuring after inoculation, comes from antigen-antibody complex which is called “immune complex” in modern science, whom he had named “toxic body” then ,and physiological products released from it.
“Serum Sickness”, the name of reason of which is recognized for adverse reaction of serum “therapy” now, was intended by him for “sickness of serum” so that “disease of blood(=connective tissue)”.
So, the manifestation of “Serum Sickness”, reported by him, was included Kidney failure, hay fever and autoimmune, which was defined for broader concept than now.

Some years later, it was "Allergy" written by him applied his study to Vaccination.

血清療法研究から、接種後に生じる「血清発疹」の正体は、血液を通じて全身に蓄積した抗原と抗体の複合体、現代科学が"免疫複合体"と呼称するものを、ピルケは"毒性体"と名付け、その毒性体が放つ生理的作用によるものと指摘しました。"血清病"の由来を、現代科学は血清"療法"の副反応と捉えていますが、ピルケの意図は、"血清の疾患"、つまり血液(＝結合組織)の病であるというものです。その証拠に、ピルケの報告した"血清病"には、腎不全、花粉症、自己免疫疾患なども含められており、現代の解釈より幅広い広範な概念でありました。

その血清病研究から数年後、同じ原理を"ワクチン"に応用して著したのが"Allergy"です。
