Gibraltar Airport, Landings and Departures easyJet and British Airways; 11 August 2022

Gibraltar Airport landings from London Gatwick and London Heathrow and departures to Bristol and Manchester. One British Airways flight and 3 easyJet flights. Gibraltar Airport is dangerous because its surrounded on both ends by water with a short runway. If the planes miss their landing by only a couple meters, they have to do a go around.

I love how these planes land on a tarmac that is surrounded on all sides by water. This is a must watch to see how close to the water these planes land and take off. There are very few airports in the world like this, that could support commercial airline jets to land and take off under such extreme conditions.

Gibraltar is one of the most dangerous airports in the world because the runway is short, it is surrounded by water on both ends of the tarmac, an international highway bisects the tarmac with cars, bikes and people on foot crossing. The weather caused by the Strait of Gibraltar can lead to brutal crosswinds. The pilots who land here have to be very qualified. Flights to Gibraltar are currently only from the United Kingdom because Gibraltar International Airport is technically a military airport not a civilian one.
