The European Commission, in connection with a new package of measures to combat the crisis in the energy sector, invited the EU member states to share blue fuel with each other in case of a critical situation.

To do this, it is proposed to introduce special rules for exchanges - an agreement on such solidarity has been signed by only six EU countries.

“The European Commission proposes to set the rules by default. This ensures that any Member State facing an emergency receives gas from others in exchange for fair compensation,” said EC President Ursula von der Leyen.

Also, the EC proposed to introduce a new monitoring system for resource reserves so that operators would not take excess fuel to the reserve, but would be forced to share it.
