The Kids Guide to the Race to Space

It's hard to believe that just over 50 years ago, we didn't have the technology to send humans to the moon. But that's exactly the case! When President John F. Kennedy made his famous speech to Congress in 1961, asking for funding to send Americans to the moon within the decade, NASA didn't even have a rocket that could get them there! They also lacked a computer small enough to guide a spaceship, spacesuits for protection, and a network of tracking stations to communicate with the astronauts. Countless problems had to be solved to get us to the Moon. Every single one of those challenges was tackled and mastered between May 1961 and July 1969. 🌔🚀
