Is Gibraltar One of the Most Dangerous in the World? Bristol Landing below, Departure from Above

Gibraltar Airport is often considered one of the most dangerous airports in Europe due to the motorway running through the middle of the runway, the short runway is surrounded by the sea, rapidly changing weather conditions, restricted airspace immediately to the north from the runway, and the gigantic Rock of Gibraltar immediately to the South.

Although we don't have many incidents here, many times the planes have to go around or be diverted to Malaga. What do you think about Gibraltar being considered one of the most dangerous airports in Europe? I love how these planes land on a runway that is surrounded by water on all sides. This is a must see to see how close to the water these planes land and take off. There are very few airports in the world like this, which could support commercial airline planes to land and take off in such extreme conditions.

Gibraltar is one of the most dangerous airports in the world because the runway is short, it is surrounded by water at both ends of the runway, an international road bisects the runway with cars, bicycles and people crossing on foot. The weather caused by the Strait of Gibraltar can cause brutal crosswinds. The pilots who land here have to be highly qualified. Currently flights to Gibraltar are only from the UK because Gibraltar International Airport is technically a military airport, not a civilian one.
