In this video, I discuss the earliest mention of "shipcoins" (altcoins, or crypto other than Bitcoin) in the Bitcoin Talk forum in 2010.

"Ribuck" predicted the advent of altcoin scams and Bitcoin knock-offs, and how they would market themselves as "better than Bitcoin." Ribuck also predicted that many people would get burned along the way by these scams.

Most crypto projects today fall under 2 different categories:

1) Bitcoin affinity scams, which piggyback on the Bitcoin brand in order to sell you their token or coin.

2) Bitcoin FUD scams, which critique Bitcoin and then conclude with a sales pitch for their token or coin.

Good faith critiques of Bitcoin are always welcome. But when they are paired with a sales pitch, you should probably just run the opposite direction.
