Usually, an ordination service is a ceremony in which someone is commissioned or appointed to a pastoral (ministry or serving) position within the church.
ORDINATION: A formal process whereby a group (normally a church) confirms a calling and equipping through some form of specialized training, and through a formal ceremony.
The ceremony may include anointing with oil, prayer and laying on of hands, by a specific group of believers, according to the agreed upon standards of the group.
