Rules and Relationships - a sermon on Matthew 5:21-37
3 years ago

Jesus' sermon on the Mount is the point in the New Testament where Jesus seems to 'lay down the law'. Indeed, the parallels with Moses on Mount Sinai are obvious and deliberate. Yet what sort of laws does Jesus lay down? He says He's not going to abolish Moses' laws, yet his teachings seem to clearly contradict them! Moreover, Jesus' new rules just don't seem to be very practical, if they are indeed supposed to be taken as rules, or perhaps we've misunderstood them?
